With his retirement from clinical practice, Dr. Koop becomes first teacher emeritus. The role will promote the longstanding tradition of training future medical professionals who focus on children with complex needs.

A new year brings change. We celebrate Dr. Steven Koop who retired from clinical practice as 2021 ended.

Gillette Children’s is one of 15 institutions to receive the International Rett Syndrome Foundation (IRSF)’s Center of Excellence designation or redesignation.

The method we designed involves using a minor outpatient surgery to “guide growth” of a deformed tibia, gradually straightening the tibia, allowing it to develop more normally, and preventing early fractures that inevitably lead to pseudoarthrosis.
